Do pets care what we name them?

Yes! Well, most of them have an opinion about their name or what they’d like to be called. Like people, some things matter more or less to us. How do you like your name? Animals tell me whether they like, loathe or are indifferent to their name and nicknames. Names matter…they’re powerful energy carriers. Names that end in an “e” sound make us physically have to slightly smile. Rowdy, Teddy, Charlie (3 of my pets). I have a dog named Stormy in spirit. I adopted her at 7, and she was/is pure sunshine.

Stormy has the happy “e” sound, but represents something potentially scary. I wouldn’t have chosen this name. In her case, nothing bad came from her name. It’s just not a name I’d have chosen. For both animals and people, names can become destiny. Don’t name kids, pets or a business something you don’t want to manifest. And calling your pets old and fat really does reinforce bad health. This will be a whole show on how many times I’ve seen this!

Choose something positive and never name animals after a disability or misfortune. We wouldn’t name a kid Birthmark, or Tourette’s so why do we name pets Tripod, or Pirate if they’re missing a leg or eye?
Or Flea, Swamp, or even Bucket as one organization did when an abused animal with a bucket forced over his head was found. Why make an animal relive their trauma by literally naming them after it?

If you’re naming a pet Pirate because he’s a skilled and mischievous sailor, different story. 😅 But, consider if you want him stealing others treasures as you’ll be held liable. If you name a pet Karma make sure it’s with positive energy, not a revenge mindset as I’ve often seen. Don’t burden pets or kids with heavy emotional baggage.

I’ve seen many cases where an animal lives up to the negative charge behind his name. Killer, Psycho, Diablo, etc. Animals named after alcohol or drugs don’t often have the best health. Again, there are exceptions to this, but names represent the pet parents energy too. Im not saying you have to name them all super cute things. In fact, one big, macho mutt named Goofy begged me to ask his rescue to change his name to Harley. Everyone agreed the name suited him much better. His spirits improved as his new name changed the energy projected onto him. That’s what names do. They carry light, love, or judgment and labels. And Harley wanted to attract a Harley dad!

Names can affect adoption chances. One rescue dog named SQUEALER had no inquires or anyone even wanting to visit with him. I asked the rescue to change his name at least to something playful Squeaker and within ten days he was adopted after having been at the shelter for three months with no love.

A horse named Chance told me he desperately wanted a name change as his while life everything felt only possible not real. A chance he’d be loved, adopted, sold, abused, etc. Pets can learn a new name quickly, so no you’re not stuck, and more importantly they don’t have to be stuck with a name that doesn’t suit them. Charlie was a stray unknown name then named Ethan at the shelter until he became my boy Charlie. He understood is name in 3 days. 🥰

And… for the all time wow request for a name change… a shelter dog asked me to have the shelter name him Patrick Swayze! You’ll have to tune into the podcast for his story and how he even gave evidence that I’d heard him correctly!
